The Consulate of Mexico in Omaha, in collaboration with Bellevue University, will host “Mexico con M de Mujer” on March 9, 2026, in celebration of International Women’s Day and the global spirit of Movimiento 8M.
The event, scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Humanities Auditorium on the campus of Bellevue University, will bring together community leaders, students, and families for an evening centered on women’s leadership, resilience, and empowerment.
Organizers say the program is designed to recognize the strength and contributions of women across cultures and generations, while also creating space for reflection and dialogue about opportunity, representation, and leadership.
Head Consul of Mexico in Omaha, Jorge Ernesto Espejel Montes, will deliver opening remarks emphasizing the importance of inclusive community engagement and honoring women’s roles in shaping society.
“The impact and achievements of women’s leadership in Mexican communities abroad demonstrate that they have gradually been overcoming obstacles to their personal and professional development, impressively balancing their daily work and personal lives. Many of them, through their perseverance and persistence, show us how they successfully balance their professional responsibilities with those at home.” Consul Espejel shared with us.
The evening will feature personal testimonies from two prominent leaders: Dr. María Vázquez, Vice President of Student Affairs at Metropolitan Community College, and Yesenia Peck, President of the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Both will share stories of perseverance and leadership drawn from their professional and personal journeys.
A moderated leadership panel will follow, bringing together influential voices from across Nebraska, including Dr. Viv L. Ewing, Margo Juárez, Dr. Mary Hawkins, Karen Pesek, and Sarah Luo. Panelists will discuss resilience, perseverance, and the experiences that have shaped their paths to leadership.
Inspired by a national initiative honoring women’s contributions to society, “Mexico con M de Mujer” aims to amplify voices that promote empowerment and cross-cultural collaboration. Organizers hope the event will particularly inspire young women and emerging leaders to pursue their goals with confidence and determination.
The event is free and open to the public.
