Omaha, Nebraska – WK Kellogg has ended production at its Omaha plant as the company completes a closure affecting 451 jobs, according to Nebraska labor records.
The final roughly 350 workers were scheduled to lose their jobs between Aug. 4 and Aug. 18. An earlier round of layoffs affected about 100 employees in the weeks before.
WK Kellogg confirmed Tuesday, Aug. 18, that production had ended and the facility had entered the decommissioning process. The company also plans to put the property up for sale.
The plant is located near 96th and F streets in southwest Omaha. Its closure ends more than eight decades of cereal production at the site.
Kellogg closure affects 451 jobs in Omaha
The Nebraska Department of Labor lists 451 jobs affected by the WK Kellogg closure in Omaha.
The layoffs include both union and nonunion workers. The company has said affected employees will receive severance payments.
WK Kellogg announced in 2024 that it planned to close the Omaha plant as part of a restructuring of its manufacturing network. Production began winding down in late 2025 and ended this month.
As part of the same restructuring, the company has directed investment toward plants in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ontario.
Omaha plant will be decommissioned and put up for sale
With production finished, WK Kellogg has begun decommissioning the Omaha facility.
The complex covers about 900,000 square feet across three buildings. The property is valued at roughly $24 million and will be listed for sale, according to information provided by the company.
The plant opened in 1942 and remained part of Omaha’s manufacturing sector for more than 80 years.
WK Kellogg has not announced a buyer for the property or a timeline for a sale.
Nebraska offers unemployment and reemployment resources after layoffs
Workers affected by plant closures and mass layoffs in Nebraska have access to state unemployment and reemployment programs.
The Nebraska Department of Labor’s Rapid Response program offers résumé and interview preparation, training opportunities, job-search assistance and information about unemployment insurance.
Nebraska also operates a Dislocated Worker Program for people who have lost their jobs. Services include training and assistance finding work in industries that are hiring.
Unemployment claims are filed through NEworks. Benefits provide temporary income to eligible workers who become unemployed through no fault of their own.
State resources for workers affected by layoffs, including Spanish-language unemployment insurance materials, are available on the Nebraska Department of Labor’s layoff resources page.
Kellogg closure follows other manufacturing job losses in Nebraska
Kellogg’s departure comes during a year in which other plant closures have also resulted in significant job losses across Nebraska.
The Tyson Foods plant closure in Lexington eliminated more than 3,000 jobs in early 2026. After the closure was announced, state agencies and local organizations launched employment and assistance programs for workers and families in the community.
In the Omaha area, Nebraska’s WARN records also show other layoffs announced this year. Skylark Meats reported 218 affected jobs in June, while Republic National Distributing Co. reported 87 affected positions in La Vista in May.

As of Aug. 18, WK Kellogg had ended production at the plant. Decommissioning is underway, and the company plans to put the Omaha property up for sale.
