GRAND ISLAND, NE — Fiesta Latina will bring Latino music, mariachi, folkloric dance and cultural performances to the Nebraska State Fair on Sunday, Sept. 6.

The program begins at 10 a.m. and continues through 8 p.m. at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds in Grand Island. A Cruise-In Car Display will open the day, followed by performances on two stages and the Fiesta Latina Celebration Parade at 2 p.m.

512: The Selena Experience will perform at 2:30 p.m. and return for a second show at 7 p.m. Other scheduled performers include the Hispanic Arts Center of Omaha, Mariachi Los Caballeros, Raíces de Mi Pueblo and folkloric dance groups from Omaha and Kearney.

Fiesta Latina activities do not require a separate entertainment ticket, but general admission is required to enter the Nebraska State Fair.

Selena tribute will perform twice on Sept. 6

512: The Selena Experience will take the Pump & Pantry Party Pit Stage at 2:30 p.m. and return at 7 p.m.

The tribute production performs songs associated with Selena, including “Como La Flor,” “Amor Prohibido,” “Si Una Vez” and “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.” Both appearances are included in the Fiesta Latina program.

The first performance begins 30 minutes after the Fiesta Latina Celebration Parade, which is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Fiesta Latina begins at 10 a.m. and continues through 8 p.m.

  • 11:30 a.m.: Los del Nuevo Delito.
  • 1:30 p.m.: Mariachi Los Caballeros.
  • 3:30 p.m.: Grupo Folklórico Belleza de Nuestra Tierra.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Flaki Dance.
  • 8 p.m.: Alfredo Herrera, El Cachanilla.

The lineup includes performers based in Omaha, Kearney and other Nebraska communities.

The Hispanic Arts Center of Omaha will present folkloric dance at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Grupo Folklórico Belleza de Nuestra Tierra, a Kearney-based dance group, will perform at 3:30 p.m.

Flaki Dance will present salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, conga and mambo at 6:30 p.m. Alfredo Herrera, El Cachanilla, will close the Earl May stage at 8 p.m. with Mexican music that includes mariachi, norteño and banda.

Adults pay $12 while youth and seniors pay $6

Fiesta Latina is included with regular admission to the Nebraska State Fair. Gate prices are based on age:

  • Adults ages 13–59: $12.
  • Adults age 60 and older: $6.
  • Children ages 6–12: $6.
  • Children age 5 and younger: Free.
  • On-site parking: Free.

Fairground gates open at 7 a.m. Vendor and entertainment buildings begin operating at 9 a.m.

The Fiesta Latina program begins one hour after the buildings open. Activities will continue through the 8 p.m. performance by Alfredo Herrera.

Two fairground entrances offer free parking

Free parking will be available near the west entrance at 700 E. Stolley Park Road and the east entrance at 1203 S. Stuhr Road.

Accessible parking will be available at the main entrance and Gate 6A, subject to space availability.

The fair will also provide free shuttle service from Sam’s Club at 1510 N. Diers Ave. Buses begin operating at 9 a.m.

Shuttles leave the Sam’s Club parking lot at the top of each hour and depart the fairgrounds at the half-hour from Gate 5A, near the 4-H and FFA Building.

Because Fiesta Latina falls on Sunday, Sept. 6, shuttle service will continue until 11:30 p.m.
