OMAHA, Nebraska — People looking for free groceries in Omaha have several ways to find food assistance, including neighborhood pantries, a ZIP code search and phone services that can identify locations based on where a household lives.
Food Bank for the Heartland does not distribute groceries directly from its Omaha warehouse. Instead, it connects residents with partner pantries, mobile distributions and other food resources across Nebraska.
Pantry hours and food availability can change because of holidays, weather, staffing or supply. Each Omaha listing below includes the phone number, current published hours, access requirements and the date the information was checked.
Food Bank for the Heartland lets Omaha residents search by ZIP code
The Food Bank for the Heartland food finder allows users to enter a ZIP code and view nearby pantries and food distributions.
Nebraska residents can also call the Food Bank’s SNAP and Food Resources Hotline at 1-855-444-5556 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The hotline can help callers locate food and provides assistance in Spanish.

211 connects callers with food assistance 24 hours a day
United Way of the Midlands operates 211 as a free referral service for food pantries and other basic needs.
Residents can dial 211 or text their ZIP code to 898211. The service operates 24 hours a day and can connect callers with assistance in hundreds of languages through its language line.
The Nebraska 211 online directory can also be searched by location and type of assistance.
Six Omaha food pantries have current published hours
Together serves Omaha residents Tuesdays and Thursdays

St. Juan Diego Community Center serves South Omaha four days a week

St. Teresa of Calcutta Campus offers afternoon and evening pantry hours

Project Hope distributes groceries three days a week

Requirements: The full-choice pantry requires a photo ID for the person requesting food and current proof of address dated within the previous 30 days. Full pantry service is generally available once every 30 days. TEFAP food has separate federal eligibility rules and does not require ID or additional information for people who meet the applicable income limits.

The Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church Food Pantry operates as a guest-choice pantry and also distributes available fresh and packaged food.
Mobile food distributions can change before the scheduled date
Mobile food distributions are another option in the Omaha area, but locations and schedules can change because of weather, food supply or other operating conditions.

SNAP can provide longer-term grocery assistance
