OMAHA, Nebraska — ArteLatinX will celebrate its 10th anniversary Friday, Sept. 18, with a free opening reception at El Museo Latino in South Omaha, beginning a monthlong exhibition focused on Latinx artists from across the Great Plains.
The opening runs from 6 to 8 p.m. CT at El Museo Latino, 4701 S. 25th St. Admission to the reception is free, the event is open to all ages and free parking will be available.
The 2026 exhibition, titled “Aquí estamos y no nos vamos”, is the fifth biennial edition of ArteLatinX and marks 10 years of the project.
Friday’s free reception will include art, food and music
The Sept. 18 opening will bring together artists, visitors and community members for an evening centered on the new exhibition.
Food scheduled for the reception includes appetizers from Salmex Restaurant and Latin Bites, along with desserts from Cake Sweet Pastelería.
The opening is organized by the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Office of Latino/Latin American Studies, or OLLAS, in partnership with El Museo Latino.

ArteLatinX brings together artists connected to seven Great Plains states
ArteLatinX was created to provide exhibition space for Latinx artists with ties to the Great Plains and to strengthen connections between artists and their communities.
The 2026 juried exhibition includes artists based in or connected to Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
This year’s title, “Aquí estamos y no nos vamos,” accompanies the project’s 10th anniversary and its return to El Museo Latino.
ArteLatinX will remain on view through Friday, Oct. 16. Regular exhibition hours are scheduled for Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Admission information for regular exhibition hours is currently inconsistent across UNO listings: ArteLatinX information describes the programming as free, while the university events calendar lists $10 admission for regular exhibition dates. The Friday evening opening reception is explicitly listed as free.
Lalo Alcaraz will headline a Sept. 23 ArteLatinX event in Omaha
ArteLatinX will continue beyond the opening reception with several programs in Omaha and Bellevue.

- Sept. 30: Guest lecture by Dr. Rose Salseda, 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. at UNO’s Community Engagement Center, 6400 University Drive S.
- Oct. 8: Floral workshop with Herrera Bouquets, 6–7:30 p.m. at 2352 Cornhusker Road in Bellevue.
- Oct. 14: Talk and tour with Clover 24, 6–8 p.m. at 2200 S. 24th St. in Omaha.
The additional ArteLatinX programs are listed as free and open to the public.

ArteLatinX opens during Hispanic Heritage Month in Nebraska
The exhibition begins during the first week of National Hispanic Heritage Month and one day after Chile’s Independence Day.
