ASHLAND, Nebraska — Twenty-two animatronic dinosaurs that move and roar are part of Dinosaurs Unearthed: A Trek Through Time, an outdoor walking experience at Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park near Ashland in Saunders County.
The attraction is included with regular park admission. Tickets cost $14 for adults, $12 for children ages 3 to 11 and $13 for guests ages 65 and older. Children age 2 and younger enter free.

The $14 admission includes the dinosaurs and a four-mile wildlife drive
Admission includes an approximately four-mile drive through Wildlife Safari Park, where visitors can see bison, elk, white-tailed deer, wolves and bears in natural habitats.
Dinosaurs Unearthed is located in a separate walking area. Visitors drive through the elk and deer areas, continue past Pelican Wetlands and Eagle Aviary, and park near the Darrald Harsh Wildlife Education Center.
The dinosaur portion begins from that parking area and continues on foot. The park does not list a standard completion time for the walking trail or the full safari experience. Visit length depends on the number of stops and each group’s pace.
The outdoor trail covers three prehistoric periods
The 22 figures represent animals from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The collection includes recognizable species such as Tyrannosaurus rex, Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, Stegoceras, Troodon, Coelophysis and Dilophosaurus.
The animatronic dinosaurs move and make sounds along the outdoor trail. Their colors and patterns were inspired by wildlife found around Ashland and the Platte River corridor.
A Tyrannosaurus rex near the Visitor Center serves as a large photo opportunity. Its appearance was selected through a children’s coloring contest, and visitors can climb onto the display and pose with it.
Three fossil dig sites add hands-on activities to the trail
The experience includes three interactive fossil dig areas where children can sift through sand for prehistoric finds. Sensory squares placed along the route allow visitors to explore different textures. These activities are included with park admission.
A partnership with the University of Nebraska State Museum connects the experience with discoveries made in the state. The fossil casts include a prehistoric leaf found near Interstate 80, part of a dinosaur tooth discovered in eastern Nebraska and a roughly one-foot-wide dinosaur track found near Fairbury.
Nonmembers must choose an arrival time before entering
General admission uses timed entry. Same-day availability can be limited, although visitors may remain inside the park after entering during their reserved time.
Members can enter without a reservation. Tickets, available military discounts and operating updates are posted with the official Dinosaurs Unearthed visitor information.
The dinosaur trail is outdoors, and weather conditions may affect its operation. Schedule changes are posted online and are also available by calling the park at 402-944-9453.
Wildlife Safari Park operates daily from April through October
The park is located off Interstate 80 near Exit 426. Its regular season runs from April through October, with daily hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
