The District 5 lawmaker Margo Juarez plans to continue serving her constituents, although medical appointments may occasionally require changes to her schedule.

Omaha, NE – Nebraska State Sen. Margo Juarez is beginning treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer and intends to remain at work representing District 5.
Juarez said Monday, Aug. 3, that her doctors have encouraged her about her prognosis and the treatment plan now in place. She did not disclose the cancer’s stage or provide details about the treatment she will receive.
Medical appointments may require occasional adjustments to her schedule, but Juarez said she remains “committed to fulfilling my duties” and continuing the work voters elected her to do.

Juarez said she and her family are hopeful as treatment begins. She also asked constituents for their thoughts and prayers and said she expects to share updates when appropriate.
She did not indicate plans to step away from office. Her message instead addressed the practical effect treatment could have on individual appointments while affirming that her legislative and constituent work will continue.
No additional information about the timing or length of treatment was available Monday. Juarez did not speculate about how often her schedule could change.
Juarez represents Legislative District 5 in South Omaha
Juarez was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2024. District 5 covers part of South Omaha in Douglas County.
Born in Omaha, Juarez graduated from Omaha South High School in 1976. She is a member of the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance, the Assistance League of Omaha and the Metro Women’s Club.
Her current committee assignments include Education, Natural Resources, Nebraska Retirement Systems, the Education Commission of the States and the Economic Recovery Special Committee.
Juarez and fellow Omaha Sen. Dunixi Guereca were also selected this year for a bipartisan leadership program for state lawmakers from across the Midwest.
