Open Door Mission’s Turkey ’N’ Fixin’s program runs through November 25, 2026, at Timberlake Outreach Center. Applicants need a current photo ID and proof of address, and assistance is limited to one distribution per address.

OMAHA, Neb. — People seeking free Thanksgiving food in Omaha can request groceries to prepare a holiday meal at home through Open Door Mission’s Turkey ’N’ Fixin’s program.

The program began November 3 and continues through Wednesday, November 25, 2026. It serves low-income individuals and families who need help with Thanksgiving groceries and additional food during the holiday season.

Turkey or ham and additional holiday groceries

Turkey ’N’ Fixin’s provides ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal that participants can prepare at home.

According to Nebraska 211, the groceries may include a turkey or ham and other traditional holiday foods.

Open Door Mission also provides extra groceries to help households during the holiday season when children are out of school.

This program distributes food for home preparation. It is separate from the free prepared meals offered daily at Open Door Mission’s Hospitality Center.

Eligibility: one Turkey ’N’ Fixin’s distribution per address

The program is intended for individuals and families with low incomes. Nebraska 211 lists Douglas and Sarpy counties in Nebraska and Pottawattamie County in Iowa as its service area.

Only one Turkey ’N’ Fixin’s distribution is available per address. One adult from the household can complete the registration; other household members do not need to attend.

Open Door Mission’s published Thanksgiving instructions do not specify a dollar-based income limit or list income records among the program’s required documents.

Bring a current photo ID and proof of address

Applicants must bring the following documents to register for Turkey ’N’ Fixin’s:

  • Current photo ID.
  • Proof of current address. A recent piece of mail showing the household’s address can be used.

There is one distinction worth checking before visiting. Open Door Mission’s general pantry instructions also list Social Security cards for household members, while the specific Turkey ’N’ Fixin’s checklist names only photo ID and proof of address.

Because registration takes place during a regular shopping visit, anyone unsure which documents will be requested should call 402-422-1111 before going.
