Traditional lotería game opens the morning program

The celebration begins at 10:30 a.m. with a session of lotería, a traditional Mexican game similar to bingo but played with illustrated cards.

Participants aim to complete their board to win prizes. The activity was open to all ages, though registration has already reached capacity.

Folklórico dance performance brings tradition to the stage

At 11:30 a.m., the Hispanic Arts Center of Omaha will present a folklórico dance performance.

The show will feature traditional choreography representing different regions of Mexico, along with colorful costumes and music, offering a visual introduction to cultural traditions.

Wrestling guest Latin Thunder leads storytime and demonstration

At 1:30 p.m., the program will include a special appearance by wrestling performer Latin Thunder.

The session will include a storytime segment, a demonstration of wrestling moves and a question-and-answer portion with the audience, followed by an opportunity for attendees to interact with the guest.

Wrestler Latin Thunder will lead a special session with storytime, demonstrations and audience interaction during the event at Omaha’s Central Library.

Papel picado workshop led by local artist

From 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., attendees can participate in a papel picado activity in the children’s area of the library, led by local artist Linda Garcia.

Papel picado is a traditional Mexican art form that involves cutting intricate designs into paper. The activity will be available as a drop-in experience during that time window.

Live music performances from student groups

The afternoon will continue with live music starting at 3:00 p.m. with a performance by the Omaha Public Schools Mariachi Band.

The group, made up of middle and high school students, will perform traditional music as part of the celebration.

At 4:00 p.m., the Bryan High School Corridos Club will close the event with a performance highlighting the storytelling tradition of corridos.

The Children’s Day program will unfold throughout the day at Central Library, where families can move from one activity to the next, from traditional games and live performances to hands-on art and story-based programming. The event is free and open to the public, with activities designed to welcome both children and adults into the celebration.
