Hola Nebraska

The city of Edgar will raise its local sales and use tax rate from 1% to 1.5%, while Blaine County will stop collecting its 2% local lodging tax.

Local tax changes will take effect in Nebraska on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in two jurisdictions: the city of Edgar and Blaine County.

Edgar will increase its local sales and use tax rate from 1% to 1.5%. In Blaine County, the 2% local lodging tax will end, although hotels in the county will continue collecting the 1% state lodging tax.

Edgar raises its local sales and use tax

The city of Edgar will raise its local sales and use tax rate from 1% to 1.5% for the calendar quarter beginning July 1, 2026.

The local increase is added to Nebraska’s state sales and use tax rate, which is 5.5%. With the adjustment, taxable sales within Edgar will have a combined rate of 7% when the city’s local tax applies.

The change may affect businesses, shoppers and sellers that conduct taxable transactions within Edgar city limits.

Blaine County eliminates its local lodging tax

Blaine County will end its 2% county lodging tax on July 1, 2026.

Hotels in the county will continue collecting the 1% state lodging tax after the change. That state tax applies separately from any local lodging tax that may be in place in other Nebraska counties.

Ending the 2% local tax changes the amount collected on lodging in Blaine County, but it does not remove the state tax that hotels must collect.

No new local changes are set for October 1

For the calendar quarter beginning October 1, 2026, Nebraska reported no new changes to local sales and use tax rates or county lodging tax rates.

The October update keeps the July 1 changes as a reminder: Edgar’s local rate increase and the end of Blaine County’s local lodging tax.

Elm Creek and Wilber had already raised their rates in April

Nebraska also recorded earlier local changes in 2026. Effective April 1, the village of Elm Creek and the city of Wilber increased their local sales and use tax rates from 1% to 1.5%.

There were no lodging tax rate changes for that quarter.
