From May 30 to June 1, Nebraska has family activities, farmers markets in Omaha and a Spanish-language karaoke night in Fremont. Families can also celebrate the Omaha Children’s Museum’s 50th anniversary with a two-day birthday party and new summer exhibits.

Omaha Children’s Museum celebrates 50 years with family activities

The Omaha Children’s Museum will begin its 50th anniversary celebration Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, with a two-day birthday party during regular museum hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The celebration starts Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with birthday cake, candles and children’s characters. Birthday activities will continue throughout the weekend with live science shows, STEAM activities, coloring stations, a giant birthday card and appearances by popular children’s characters.
The museum will host live science shows featuring liquid nitrogen ice cream, along with hands-on STEAM activities such as making birthday cake slime. Birthday party favors will be available for families while supplies last.
Several characters are scheduled to appear, including Darth Vader, Ariel, Belle, Spiderman, Ghost Spider, Bluey, Perry the Platypus, Runza Rex and Stormy from the Storm Chasers. The museum announcement did not list individual appearance times for each character.
The anniversary weekend will also bring the opening of two new exhibits for summer: Ciao Bambini! and Super Sports Squared.

Omaha Farmers Market opens Saturday in the Old Market
The Omaha Farmers Market in the Old Market will be open Saturday, May 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 11th & Jackson Streets. The 2026 season runs Saturdays from May 2 through Oct. 10.
Visitors can expect local produce, homemade goods and vendors in one of Omaha’s most familiar market areas. The market also accepts EBT cards for SNAP tokens and offers Double Up Food Bucks vouchers.
Garage parking and on-street parking are available at both Omaha Farmers Market locations, according to the market’s customer information. Pets are welcome, with market policies in place for visitors bringing animals.
Fremont hosts Sala de despecho at Los Mezcales Ortiz

Los Mezcales Ortiz will host Karaoke: Sala de despecho on Saturday, May 30, from 9:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
