Freshness Guaranteed pico de gallo recalled in Nebraska over salmonella risk

The recalled products have Best If Used By dates through Aug. 15 and 16. Nebraska is also among 27 states with illnesses linked to the national outbreak.

Four jalapeño-containing dips and salsas distributed in Nebraska have been recalled because of a possible salmonella contamination risk. Two of the products were sold through Kroger, while the other two are Freshness Guaranteed pico de gallo products sold at Walmart.

Taylor Fresh Foods began the recall after Coast Citrus Distributors recalled fresh jalapeños imported from Sinaloa, Mexico. The ingredients may be connected to a multistate outbreak that has sickened 345 people and hospitalized 36 across 27 states, including Nebraska.

Federal health officials have not released a Nebraska-specific case count. No deaths have been reported in connection with the outbreak.

Do not eat recalled products

The four recalled products should not be eaten. Consumers may discard them or return them to the retailer where they were purchased for a refund.

Containers and surfaces that came into contact with the products should be carefully cleaned and sanitized to reduce the risk of cross-contamination with other foods.

Questions about the recall can be directed to Taylor Fresh Foods customer service at 855-455-0098, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time.

Nebraska is among 27 states with outbreak-related illnesses

The national outbreak includes 345 reported illnesses, 36 hospitalizations and no deaths. Illnesses began between June 19 and July 20, 2026.

Nebraska is among the states reporting illnesses, along with Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Federal investigators linked the infections to fresh jalapeños from Sinaloa that were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. A traceback investigation identified a common grower in Sinaloa as the likely source of the outbreak.

As of Aug. 9, Taylor Fresh Foods had not received reports of illnesses specifically tied to its recalled dips and salsas. The national illnesses are linked to the jalapeño outbreak that prompted subsequent recalls of prepared foods containing the peppers.

Salmonella symptoms can begin within 12 to 72 hours

Symptoms of a salmonella infection usually begin 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, and they typically last four to seven days.

Children younger than 5, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe infection. Anyone who develops symptoms after eating a recalled product should contact a health care provider.
